Whether you have applied for a green card, visa, citizenship, or dealing with removal proceedings, staying informed about your U.S. immigration case is important. Below, you’ll find a list of official platforms and step-by-step guides to help you track the progress of your case, depending on the agency handling your application.

USCIS (U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services) Cases


If you filed your case with USCIS, visit the USCIS Case Status Tool to check the status of the following case types:

  • I-130, Petition for Alien Relative
  • I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status
  • N-400, Application for Naturalization
  • Form I-589, Application for Asylum and for Withholding of Removal
  1. Go to Case Status Online – Case Status Search
    Use this tool to track the status of an immigration application, petition, or request.
  2. Enter your receipt number:
    This is a 13-character number found on your receipt notice (e.g., EAC1234567890).
  3. Click “Check Status” to view the latest update.

You can also create an account on USCIS Online Account | Sign up for a USCIS account  to get case updates via email or text.

Immigration Court Cases (EOIR)


If you have a pending case with the immigration court or are in removal proceedings:

  1. Go to  Automated Case Information  
  2. Enter your A-number (Alien Registration Number, e.g., A123-456-789).This number is printed in all DHS and EOIR correspondence.
  3. Check for information about your next hearing date, time, location, and case status.

National Visa Center (NVC) Cases


If you need to check your visa application status:

  • Visit the CEAC (Consular Electronic Application Center): https://ceac.state.gov/CEAC
  • Select “Check My Visa Application Status”.
  • Enter your application case number.

You’ll see your case status such as “In Transit,” “Ready,” or “Issued.”
